Life Transitions and Weight Gain
Posted on 20 May 2008 by Johnetta Miner
The many dimensions of our lives, as women, can and does impact our health and wellness status. As an independent practitioner and expert in women’s health, I am not exempt from the health effects of growing and managing a practice which is another phase of the many life transitions we experience. Life is transitional. Birth, aging, sickness and death are all transitional periods of life. We also transition from long term employment to the ‘new retirement’, working part-time or having a home based business.
Some of us have gained weight. We often gain weight as we sit for long periods of time in front of the computer. Exercise is minimal or non- existant. Our bodies probably think we’ve lost our mind or don’t love ourselves enough to consider the long term consequences of not exercising.
One solution for reducing weight gain is to increase exercise and decrease high caloric foods or empty calories such as candy, pastry and soda. Take a scheduled break from desk work, move around, stretch, go for a walk in the natural light of day or practice your yoga or Qi Gong. Leave your comments tell us what your favorite ‘break activities include.
