Awareness And The Mind

Posted on 02 April 2008 by Johnetta Miner

The Wellness Inventory Tool has been a tremendous aide for me in my continuous quest for optimal wellness and life changes. I’ve become constantly aware of my breathing pattern during the course of the day and the impact of colors on my well-being. Since I’m a seasonal person, I’ve been aware of the effect light/lighting has on my well-being. My waking and sleeping patterns and my fingernails are  affected by the seasons of the year.

I know Spring has arrived because at winter’s end my fingernails became brittle and dry with breakage . With the advent of Spring my fingernails are pink, growing and look healthy.

Awareness on many levels can bring a deeper sense of well-being that was not considered previously. Awareness of thought, awareness of the spoken word, awareness of the internal flood of blood in our veins, awareness of touch and a sense of comfort from that touch, awareness of a pleasant feeling  that comes with giving with no strings attached and the awareness of the universal energy and love that surrounds us.

‘Neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor had an opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: One morning, she realized she was having a massive stroke. As it happened — as she felt her brain functions slip away one by one, speech, movement, understanding — she studied and remembered every moment. This is a powerful story about how our brains define us and connect us to the world and to one another’. Watch the video here.

Living Long or Living Well

Posted on 02 April 2008 by Johnetta Miner

Last night, 04/01/08,  ABC aired ’Live To 150. Can You Do It?’ with Barbara Walters as hostess. Longevity, of course, was the overall topic of the show. I had heard, read or seen videos previously, of the individual topics that were presented on living a long life. The BBC News  Discovery  presented a program on living to age 150. Last night the topics included genomes, preserving or freezing of the body, resveratrol medication, calorie and fat restricted diets, tissue regeneration and centenarians. Watch the video and find out how these centenarians are living to the fullest.

My first thought brought a smile to my face and a chuckle….that being, Barbara Walters was publicly admitting, on national television, to being a card carrying  member of AARP and interested in a much longer lifetime.

On a much deeper level, I wondered about those folks who spent $75, 000 to have their bodies preserved and be ‘awakened’ centuries from now. What happens to the ‘pain body’ that Eckhart Tolle wrote about in A New Earth? Will they have to resolve the pain before they can get on with their new life in another era of time? WOW!

Tissue regeneration or rebuilding the body is akin to replacing a part in a car. Instead of going to the Minute Clinic to see a Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant for acute care, maybe we’ll fly to the mall and take the moving sidewalk to have our liver replaced!

Resveratrol can be found in wine. However, it would take thousands and more bottles for tissue and cell repair. Imagine swallowing a pill and just keep going, going and going, as shown in the battery commercial. To recap, resveratrol is found in a variety of  plants but primarily in the skin of grapes. It supports antioxidant health by its effect on cell damaging free radicals in the body.

Paul Newman, an 82 year old race car driver and Aubrey de Grey, a British researcher, were featured  on the show. The first time I saw and heard Aubrey de Grey speak was on the internet. He expressed his opinion on the process of aging as being a disease that is curable.

The show presented both sides of the same coin of wellness….live WELL(ness) while living LONG. Wellness is a continuum. Review the Wellness Inventory for optimal wellness and get a free report.

What’s Old Is New Again

Remember the Evenflow glass baby bottles of years ago? Well, maybe not since they were very popular before the advent of disposable and plastic bottles. Along came plastic bottles and with it health concerns about the polycarbonate and Bisphenol A (BPA) used in the plastic. Questions arose as to the safety of the bottles.
Glass bottles are being used again! Sales are increasing daily according to Babies ‘R’ Us. Now that mothers are using glass bottles, what about the water that goes in the bottle?
Water
Recently the news media reported that we are drinking cocktails, whether we won’t one or not. It was reported that when we drink a glass of water we’re having a ‘drug cocktail’. Research has shown that the drinking water in various states contains many drugs that are used to treat high blood pressure, arthritis, osteoporosis, etc.
Bottles + Water
I’ve always felt that glass bottles were quite chic and elegant. These days, the majority of items packaged in glass cost more. A leading bottler (Poland Spring) of water has changed their bottle design as well as reduced the amount of plastic in the bottle. Okay. So what are the bottlers of tap water going to do about their water purity?
This is too much for me to handle right now. I need a glass of tap water.
What do you drink? Bottled or tap water? Do you use glass or plastic drinking containers?
